Keep in mind the situation that Farmville is in. It's on a bend in the river where historically tobacco was collected and then sent to Petersburg to be shipped out all over the world. Farmville was the upper end of the system that fed Petersburg. Tobacco went from wagons to river transport there. Warehouses were built by the river and a town developed on slightly higher ground.

Petersburg, like Richmond and many other important East Coast cities is on the fall line. There's a good description of that here, so look it up if you don't know what that means. Wikipedia (Links)
    Fall_line
Shipped goods were transfered at the fall line from flat bottom boats to steam or other power driven boats. During the Civil War, the Northern army destroyed Petersburg as a port and it went in to permanent decline with effects upriver.

As the river trade died out the trains moved in and Farmville survived. Look at a map of the town and you will see lots of evidence of train yards with warehouses for some manufactured goods and farm products, particularly tobacco, going out and trade goods coming in.

Now, if you look closely at the map, you can see the railroad is gone and the highway rules. Farmville is growing towards the highway now. That is where all the new development seems to be happening. The pattern is the same as in the past.

The problem this time is that manufacturing jobs have all gone overseas and the tobacco farming economy in Southern Virginia has been almost completely destroyed. Twenty years ago, there were tobacco farms everywhere down there. A lot of people relied on tobacco income to make ends meet. Now there are empty tobacco barns everywhere instead. If you look at the google street view of the road where Sam was found, you can see a few.

Stuff that comes into town still costs money. They produce less of value there to trade. Having two colleges employs some people, but a lot of other people needs jobs too. To bring jobs and money in, some towns build trash facilities and take trash from NYC. Some fight with other towns for WalMart distribution facilities or something similar and "win" one. Some build prisons and take people from NYC. Farmville chose the latter.

I went to a Don Rimer workshop on the occult last night. it was

fascinating. He really knew his srtuff, he;s a famous detective,

teacher, anthropoliogist type. It was starnge to see this giant screen

with pictures of pentacles and goat sacrifices and juggalos, contrasted

with the backgrounnd of the church altar organ christmas tree presents,

I sketched an eerie veiw of it on my program. I got him to autograph

the program. He has a wonderful vibe, very fresh fair minded

intelligent. He's on tour I reccomend going, he is christian but has

alot of pagan freinds and wiccan. He is just down on EVIL people, hehas

taught at ODU, has all sorts of artifacts and evidence.
since the recent quadruple homicide by horrorcore internet bf come to

visit here, this entire small town is freaking out. I even had a

nightmare. I've done several blogs with links to videos, news footage,

sites with info. The brutality of the murders and the unusual

circumstances have really got people talking.
    I think alot of the

people here, well in that neighborhood, thought money position location

made the 'safe' and they were untouchable. wrong
    .....I will post sketch

    later.
cant say i'm a dull date lol

    Emphasis mine.

    As far as the defense...

To avoid this outcome I think Sam's attorney needs nothing less than a Perry Mason style defense...he needs to find the "real" murderer and show Sam was set up.

Or maybe he'll try to show some form of diminished capacity or that Sam was a pawn in a Manson-esque cult as one blogger suggested.

I can't see this attorney trying the demonic possession defense as much as that would amuse me.

Otherwise I don't see how Sam gets only 10-20 years as he wrote in that letter.

Maybe his attorney meant 10-20 for each murder? I'd be interested to hear what the lawyers in the house think about a plea bargain for a minimum of 40 years to take the death penalty out of the equation.

I also think the 10-20 years could only happen if they actually can only prove one of the murders.Who knows could that happen? It took them a long time to charge him with the other murders,he got charged with Mark's murder right away...as hard as it is to believe maybe they only have strong evidence in Mark's case.....maybe there really was a perry mason style set up.....this is purely fiction of course and I do not think that's what happened but it would make for a good plot I think:
...what if Debra's research came up with something that Farmville and Chi couldn't let come out in the open, that's why she could not return to the university....maybe something like a secret immigration/citizen holding facility and of course Farmville was gathering everyones data through the farmville facebook/myspace app....anyways Farmville had to get rid of Debra and saw Sam's visit as a perfect opportunity, when they came to do the "welfare" check they actually murdered Debra,Emma and Mel and gave Sam instructions to call Mel's mom to tell her they were at the movies and the car broke down ,Sam called the police shortly thereafter hoping the "real" police would come, instead it was the same guys and he knew he was screwed....they told him to stay put until it was time to take his regular flight out and that they would arrest him at the airport or they would kill him like the others. When Mark came to check on his family Sam was freaked out and thought it was one of them coming back and killed Mark....he freaked out and called Sinister to tell him everyone was dead....etc..ok I'll stop, getting carried away again....I hope Dan Brown doesn't read here,lol...

Back in the mid 70"s with both babies in tow, my hubby and I struck out for a nice quiet Sunday afternoon drive in the country...We ( from Richmond,Va) ended up in the countryside of Farmville....In the light of day, we came to a what we thought was a festival of sorts, sooooo,,,we pulled over,,,,as there was so much traffic on this country road,,the (state police, I think) were directing traffic.....We asked what was going on and was told it was a clan meeting......I didn't realize immediately just what a clan meeting was, until I saw men on a platform in white robes and hoods.......My hubby couldn't get out of there fast enough.......Having been born here and lived my entire life here,,,I have never experienced being that close to that group of people......It was very scarry, and we never went in that direction again ....for our Sunday drives....

I'm surprised about the 70s, but I guess that's because it is further south.

I am not sure if it was this topic or another on WS but someone said Virginia is not part of the south in terms of slavery and how we participated in the Civil war....I can tell you most deffinitely,,,this is the SOUTH ,,,and as of the early eighties I knew people associated with the clan....One night after a softball game we went back to one of the players apartment.....Her roommate pulled out a white robe and hood,,she said belonged to her boyfriend.....I couldn't believe my friend (another player),,,really had her living there, as the roomies boyfriend spent days there.......Being a white girl,,I didn't want any association with these people.......

Finally, there was a little back and forth not long ago about Virginia, Klan, etc. I've never seen a Klan rally, but I do remember one near Petersburg in the mid-80's. It was unusual enough to make the news and had probably more protestors than Klan members. I've heard of others since then but can't recall exactly where. For what it's worth, at the same time graffiti saying "Fight for Worker's Rights, Join the CWP" was also pretty common in Petersburg, Richmond, and Washington D.C. and all along I95, as were posters claiming the Catholic Church owned all the major media and that "Hitler was a Choirboy." I still have one of each of those posters that come from construction sites in D.C. in the 80's. I haven't seen any of that stuff in a decade at least more likely a good 20 years. There is a guy in Charlottesville named Kevin Strom Wikipedia (Links)
    Kevin_Alfred_Strom
who is the former director of a group called National Vanguard. No doubt he has some support locally and around the region, at least until his child pornography conviction, but mostly he was just laughed at locally.

The notion that that racism is typical of or limited to today's "south" is very wrong as is the notion that Farmville fits into some filmic stereotype of what the "South' is like. Hate an equal opportunity things that lets both northerners and southerners play the game, not to mention practically everyone else in the world.

Oh my, I feel a Wikipedia rampage coming.

The NorthWest is a hotbed of racism and anti-semitism with the California born Aryan Nations having it headquarters in Hayden Lake Idaho for many years. Again from that dreaded Wiki thing. Wikipedia (Links)
    Aryan_Nations

"The origin of Aryan Nations is in the teachings of Wesley Swift, a significant figure in the early Christian Identity movement. Swift combined British Israelism, extreme antisemitism, and political militancy. He founded his own church in California in the mid-1940s, and he had a daily radio broadcast in California during the 1950s and 1960s. In 1957, the name of his church was changed to the Church of Jesus Christ-Christian, which is used today by Aryan Nations churches.[3]
From the 1970s until 2001, the headquarters of AN was in a 20-acre (81,000 m²) compound 1.8 miles north of Hayden Lake, Idaho.[3] There were a number of state chapters, only loosely tied to the main organization. The group ran an annual World Congress of Aryan Nations at Hayden Lake for both AN adherents and members of similar groups.[3]
August Kreis, an aspiring revolutionary with ties to the Aryan Nations, the Posse Comitatus, and the Ku Klux Klan, has reportedly attempted to forge an alliance between white supremacists and al Qaeda, hoping to exploit their shared hatred of the American government and the Jews.[4]"

We could go on for a very long time with this, but I hope the point is made.

How about letting drive off with the tow truck driver after they found him driving on a dark country road at 4AM in someone else's car full of spilled prescription medications with no license or registration?

I don't think so personally, but I look forward to your views.

Also worth recalling that a White Order of Thule (WOT) graffiti appears in a SickTanick video.

This set of theoretical assumptions could be suggested about nearly anywhere in America
